Design Thinking Certificate Programme for School Leaders
This programme admits 20 primary/secondary schools, each to be represented by a principal/vice principal and a panel head. Priority will be given to government schools, aided or direct subsidy schools.
Prior knowledge of design thinking is desirable but not essential. You will receive around two-hour of pre-work, including reading, video viewing, and preparation of an initial personal learning plan to document your aspirations, actions and reflections. Participants may choose to attend an optional half-day introduction to design thinking on 7 Dec prior to the workshop.
Part 1: Workshop (10 – 11 Dec 2019)
Venue: Room 603-4, K.K. Leung Building , The University of Hong Kong
This will be a highly-interactive, multi-modal workshop, including energizers and times for reflection . Led by a professional team of international and local experts, you will learn how design thinking can be applied in the local school context as:
- a pedagogy to motivate learning across different disciplines and nurture 21st century skills
- a creative problem solving process to address daily school challenges>
- a way of working to foster a collaborative school culture
Day 1 of the workshop will aim at understanding yourself as a school leader, the school as a learning ecosystem as well as the design thinking process.
Day 2 of the workshop will focus on developing an action plan to school change by applying design thinking and gathering feedback to the plan.
Part 2: School Check-ins (Jan – Mar 2020)
Applying the workshop learning, participants will work on the action plan to tackle a school challenge under the guidance of the trainers. There will be two onsite school check-ins (around 2 hours each), and a peer-to-peer support system in addition to the professional coaching from the trainers.
Part 3: Debriefing (Apr 2020)
The programme will be concluded with a half-day debriefing session to reflect and share the learning experiences. The expert team will provide feedback and suggestions to the participants.
Free admission with a deposit of $1500, refundable upon satisfactory completion of the programme.
